The George Harcourt Inn (opposite Cockington Green) was built in 1980 and named after a local landowner, George Harcourt. George was a bit of a lad in his time. He was a good businessman, a keen sportsman and, generally, an all round man’s man — and an Englishman to boot.
More recently, The George was taken over by a couple of Canberra folk and as a result, underwent a face lift that has recharged this cosy meeting place for years to come.
Your hosts Gil and Colleen offer the best of live music, great food and a cool kick-back atmosphere, giving The George a unique ambiance. This fine establishment has great appeal to those who don’t want the *kachink* of pokies and the constant drone of TV screens in the background. The noise has been replaced with the sounds of cruising music as a background for good conversation and relaxation.

If you're homesick for the UK or even missing a proper English pub, The George absolutely hits the spot. It's a great place for a drink and feed all year round, with covered outdoor areas for summer and a real open fireplace in the cooler Canberra months. Beers from classics to craft so bases are covered across the board. Excellent pub style menu with some real traditional gems if you have a good look.
